Spearmint

Our first large event in Shanghai! After holding two Clean-up Days in Wenling since our founding in 2013, Spearmint expanded into Shanghai, one of China's largest cities, to spread our message of "Save Environment, Save Life" to more people. However, because Spearmint lacked our usual partners and sponsors in Wenling, our team thought the best first event would be a fundraiser.

 

Our team for this event consisted of transnational students from St. Stevens Episcopal School (TX, USA), Concordia (SH, CH), Swarthmore College (PA, USA), Choate Rosemary Hall (CT, USA), Shanghai American School (SH, CH), Northeastern University (MA, USA), Columbia University (NY, USA), and Yale University (CT, USA). We received student photography submissions from Hawaii, Iceland, the United States, China, Australia, and the UK. During the event, we made both prints and postcards of the event.

We originally predicted we would raise about ¥2000, but, to our surprise, we counted ¥4500 at the end of our day. Our increased funds and new connections with Shanghai's educational network and government helped us be even more impactful in Shanghai in 2016.
