Students from 10 U.S. states, 4 Chinese Provinces, 3 countries to promote environmental education in China

Jane Zhang

Jane Zhang is studying international affairs and environmental issues at Yale University. She grew up in the Northeast United States before moving to Shanghai, China, her current residence.

Her experiences with environmental pollution and environmental nonprofits in China prompted her to consider the relationship between China’s worsening environment and its youth,  the nation's next generation of leaders and decision-makers.

It is Jane's hope that Spearmint speaks to the concerns of Chinese youth and inspires them to create a better environment through their own social action. Through its ties with the United States and its international student members, Spearmint aims to promote a greater interest and concern for cooperation between U.S. and China in addressing environmental issues on the grassroots level.

Lily Cao

Lily is a rising senior at the Pingry School. She is a new Spearmint volunteer and is excited to engage the public in all environmental efforts. She initially became involved in environmentalism after turning vegan three years ago and learning about the dire consequences of the meat and dairy industry.

Melody Li

Melody is a rising junior at Choate Rosemary Hall and has a interest in environmental policy and economics. She played an active role in Spearmint’s project last year. At school, she works on the school’s Sustainability Committee and participates in Choate’s Environmental Immersion Program at the Kohler Environmental Center.

This year, he hopes that Spearmint can do an even better job and spread to the influence to a larger audience!

She loves being outdoors, whether she is playing volleyball, going to the beach, or observing nature. She is interested in law and the social sciences as she wants to spread awareness about environmental protection, especially as the world narrative spotlights China as a place for growth in environmental issues while its economy rises on the global scene.

Charles Wang

Charles Wang is a rising junior at Concord-Carlisle High School in Massachusetts. He loves to play tennis and the clarient. He also loves to spend time outdoors and as a result, has a fasciantion towards environmental protection. Especially with the environmental issues in today's world, he is very excited to be able to participate in such a group to help address these issues.
